History
1986
The Institute for Robotics Research is founded as a central scientific facility of the University of Dortmund within the framework of the Future Technology Initiative of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia under Prof. Dr. Eckhard Freund. The institute was initially based in Iserlohn.
1988 The current building on the North Campus of the Technical University of Dortmund is occupied.
1989
Official inauguration of the Institute for Robotics Research.
2005
In the course of a restructuring, the institute becomes part of the Technische Universität Dortmund. The Chair of Data Processing Systems, headed by Prof. Dr. Uwe Schwiegelshohn, moves into the building.
2006 - 2014
For several years, the Chair of Industrial Robotics and Production Automation (IRPA) of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering under the direction of Prof. Kuhlenkötter and the Chair of Information Technology of the Faculty of Computer Science under the direction of Prof. Fink also conduct research in the Institute of Robot Research.
2011 Resolution as a central scientific institution of the Technical University of Dortmund.
2012
The institute is affiliated to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the Technical University of Dortmund. 2014
The Chair of Control Theory and Systems Engineering, headed by Prof. Dr. Prof. h.c. Dr. h.c. Torsten Bertram moves into the building.
